One choice can transform you, or destroy you. Every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves, and herself, while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
My Review: Isn't it kind of known that sequels never live up to for predecessors? That's what I hear, especially in YA. Thankfully, Insurgent did not have that problem! While I wouldn't say it was necessarily better than the first book in the series, Divergent, it definitely close to the same level! I had a blast reading it!
This book was a little slower than the first. It took a longer time to get into the action and the conflicts but once it took off, it was fantastic. I loved jumping back into the story with Tris and Four, especially after all that happened in the last book. So much had happened and I was glad to be able to read the follow up. There was no break between the end of Divergent and the beginning of this book and I was glad for that. I wanted to see everything that happened after the events in the previous book and that's exactly what I got!
I was a little disappointed in Tris in this book. She was frustratingly insecure and unwilling to trust anyone. She kept a lot of things from the people around her and went behind their backs to do the things she wanted. She was so impulsive and made a lot of stupid decisions. I just wanted to shake her! I couldn't believe how she was acting. She even kept things from Tobias. However, Tobias had his own secrets, as well. That frustrated me a lot, too. I wish that there hadn't been relationship drama within this book. It was sad to see the tension between Tris and Tobias. Still, I thought that when they were together, they just worked. They made each other stronger. They have such a great relationship and they aren't dependent on each other which is so refreshing from what we normally see in YA. But still, while I don't want them constantly leaning on each other, I want them to be able to trust each other enough to share their secrets.
All of the twists and turns in this book were brilliantly laid out - nothing fell through the Veronica Roth's fingers and I loved that. Everything was believable but definitely not predictable. I enjoyed being shocked by what happened.
Insurgent was a great sequel that left me with an ache that only the third book could cure. I need to know what happens next! I'm so excited to follow Tris and Tobias's journey as they overcome the obstacles that they were left with at the end of this book.

WOOHOO I loved this book! I mean, I still preferred Divergent over it, but seeing as its the second book to a trilogy, color me impressed :) I agree that Tris got kind of bothersome in this one though, because she kept second guessing herself even if she knew she was a Divergent and that was obviously something special. I also kind of got bothered by the chemistry between her and Tobias, and it was unfortunate that I started to question their relationship (they were so toxic!) However, I admired how they were able to cope in the end. This book also actually concluded on a very exciting note. I felt like I was having an epiphany. Haha! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I loved this book, although I still liked Divergent better. I guess that was indeed because of the slower pace and Tris' behaviour. But that cliffhanger! I need book 3!

Tris was a bit insecure in this book. I think I like Divergent better, but this was still a good sequel :) Great review! I am dying for book 3
