Review: Dark Frost

Title:  Dark Frost
Series:  Mythos Academy #3
Author:  Jennifer Estep
Publisher:  Kinsington
Pages:  336
Format:  eBook

Summary:  I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me—again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects—and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me?

It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me—and I’m in for the fight of my life.

My Review:  I was really excited to get my hands on this book, especially after all we found out in the books before this one.

When I first began reading this story, my head was spinning with all the information we were given and how much was happening within the first few pages.  Soon though, I got everything straight and was once again thrust into the Mythos world with Gwen and everyone else.

I felt like this story line was a lot more serious in this one than the first two.  There was a lot higher stakes and Jennifer did a good job of getting those intense emotions across.

I thought that Gwen grew a lot of a character in this book and I really loved that.  She had a taste of what life was really like as a warrior and it did scare her but she kept on going.  I admire how she stood up to her enemies, even when she was shaking at the knees.  I also liked how she was slowly growing as a member of the school.  She was no longer an outcast and I was happy she had more friends!

Gwen wasn't the only character that went through a change in this book though.  Logan did some major growing up when he told Gwen about his big secret.  I was really glad that they opened up to each other, even if it did lead to some rocky situations.

And this new power Gwen developed...I thought that was a really interesting twist and it showed a bit of a darker side to her.  It added a lot of extra layers to the whole situation.

Like the first two books, this one had great writing, an interesting plot, and lots of character developement that I really enjoyed.  I'm excited to see where this series goes next and how Gwen will develope more as a character.
