Losses mount and deadly new threats converge in this next action-packed tale of the Arcana Chronicles by #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole.
When the battle is done . . .
The Emperor unleashes hell and annihilates an army, jeopardizing the future of mankind--but Circe strikes back. The epic clash between them devastates the Arcana world and nearly kills Evie, separating her from her allies.
And all hope is lost . . .
With Aric missing and no sign that Jack and Selena escaped Richter's reach, Evie turns more and more to the darkness lurking inside her. Two Arcana emerge as game changers: one who could be her salvation, the other her worst nightmare.
Vengeance becomes everything.
To take on Richter, Evie must reunite with Death and mend their broken bond. But as she learns more about her role in the future--and her chilling past--will she become a monster like the Emperor? Or can Evie and her allies rise up from Richter's ashes, stronger than ever before?

I feel like the longer this series goes on, the less I like it.  I absolutely adored the first and even second books of this series.  But this one just didn't hold the same spark for me.  While I still enjoyed it a lot, I found myself annoyed with Evie and frustrated with all the rest of the characters.  I couldn't just sit back and enjoy the action, tension, and romantic angst because I was too busy yelling at all the characters to stop being so stupid.

Okay, so I know this whole love triangle is a huge thing for this series and everyone is so divided but I am.  so.  freaking.  tired.  of.  it.  I just want Evie to freaking pick one of the guys and stick with him.  No more wishy washy decisions.  I feel like this is going to just drag on and on until the very last page of the very last book and I don't know if I could handle that.  I'm leaning one way but I honestly just don't know if it will happen.  I'm nearly convinced it's going to be another ending like with The Internal Devices series by Cassandra Clare.  But hey, I don't know.  I just want the romantic aspect of this series to be resolved.  Both guys have their pros and cons and I understand it's an incredibly hard decision but come on.  Please don't let it go on for the whole series.

Besides all the romantic turmoil, I really found that the rest of the book kinda dragged.  Like, yes, a lot of things happened but I felt like it was all just . . . busy work almost.  Like, it was just filling the spaces.  I really just was a resolution of this one and I don't know when we're going to get it.  I'm hoping the next book is the last one.  I don't want it to drag on to the point where it ruins the story and characters.

There's not a whole lot to say about this book besides that.  I don't want to ruin anything that happened in it.  While it wasn't the best book I've read by this author, I found it really lacking.  I wanted it to grabbed and hold my attention but it didn't.

  1. Already at book two, I was getting frustrated with the state of the love triangle, so it disheartens me that by book four we still don't have that sorted out. I think I'll wait to continue this series until there's an actual end.

    1. It is really frustrating! The tension with both love interests is super intense - I just can't stand how indecisive the main character is. She drives me crazy! Hopefully the next book wraps up the triangle so we can move onto the action!
