Waiting on Wednesday #56

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.  It's where we share the upcoming releases we're most eagerly anticipating and can't wait to get our hands on!

This week . . .

Title:  Afterworlds
Series:  None
Author:  Scott Westerfeld (Website | Twitter)
Age Group:  Young Adult
Publication Date:  September 23 by Simon Pulse
Darcy Patel has put college and everything else on hold to publish her teen novel, Afterworlds. Arriving in New York with no apartment or friends she wonders whether she's made the right decision until she falls in with a crowd of other seasoned and fledgling writers who take her under their wings…
Told in alternating chapters is Darcy's novel, a suspenseful thriller about Lizzie, a teen who slips into the 'Afterworld' to survive a terrorist attack. But the Afterworld is a place between the living and the dead and as Lizzie drifts between our world and that of the Afterworld, she discovers that many unsolved - and terrifying - stories need to be reconciled. And when a new threat resurfaces, Lizzie learns her special gifts may not be enough to protect those she loves and cares about most.

Why I'm waiting on Afterworlds:  I'm actually not a huge Scott Westerfeld fan.  I read his Uglies series and enjoyed it but I definitely had some serious problems with it while I was reading.  However, this one sounds so unique and different that I just can't resist giving it a shot.

  1. I am a fan of Scott Westerfeld. I know people didn't really care for Uglies but I enjoyed it. I actually got an ARC of this and I didn't even realize it was such a long book. It's a little over 600 pages. I never find it necessary for books to be that long. I mean sheesh. I hope it's really good. It's going to have to be to keep my interest for that long.

    1. Wow, 600 pages!? That's crazy! There only a few books *cough* Harry Potter *cough* that I enjoy that are that long. Hopefully this one turns out to be one of them because it sounds so awesome!

  2. I am super excited about this book! And the reason it is so long is its like two books. It is the author and the process they went through to write it and then the actual book.
