Review: The Lost Prince

Title:  The Lost Prince
Series:  The Iron Fey: Call Of The Forgotten
Author:  Julie Kagawa
Publisher:  HarlequinTeen
Pages:  379
Format:  Paperback

Don’t look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them.

That is Ethan Chase’s unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he’d dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister’s world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

This novel is one of Julie’s books that will have you demanding for the second one as soon as you finish your read.
My Review:  So.  Many.  Feels.

I'm in recovery right now.  Reading this book was . . . it was an adventure to say the least.  A good adventure.  I read this entire book in about six hours.  I really did not want to could not put it down.  Every time I tried to put it aside and do homework or eat food, I would end up crawling back to it, desperate to find out what would happen next.

Returning back to this world was amazing.  I love the terrifying beauty of the land of Faery; the beasts and the scenery and the mysterious and mischievous fae.  I always enjoy the imagery and adventure in Julia Kagawa books and The Lost Prince definitely did not disappoint.  We started a heart racing and intense new adventure with a group of new and relatable characters who I quickly fell in love with.

Ethan is so great.  I was a little unsure of how he would be as our main character now but I really had nothing to fear.  It was so interesting to see how Ethan's time in Faery had affected his life after Meghan had left.  His personality and the way he lived was so realistic and truthful.  He had been scarred from the trauma he'd been put through when he was just four years old and that made him a really sympathetic character.  And even though to the other people within the book he came off as a jerk, we knew that he was just trying to protect everyone.  And I also completely fell in love with Keirran and Kenzie!  I felt like they were complimented Ethan and the story perfectly!  Even though every time Keirran was in a scene I was just like O.o This is _____ and _____'s son . . .

The only thing I found a little bitter sweet about this story was seeing the old characters from the first books in this series.  Meghan, Ash, and Puck (and Grim) all and will always have a special place in my heart.  Every time they showed up in this story, my heart would give a little flutter and I would not be able to spot smiling.  But these appearances seemed to overshadow Ethan's story a bit.  I found myself thinking when will I see Ash next?  and I wonder what Puck is up to... and what would Meghan have done in this situation?  So while I definitely enjoyed seeing what these characters were up to, I wish that they hadn't cast such a large shadow over Ethan's journey.

I have very little to complain about with this story.  As always, Kagawa has delivered a story that kept me at the edge of my seat and reading long into the night.  All I really want now is the next book.  If you haven't read this series (including the first books), I HIGHLY recommend you do.  You will not regret it.

  1. I STILL HAVEN'T READ A JULIE KAGAWA BOOK! I really, really, really need to read something by her. o_O

I mean, seriously! I want to read this book so bad, and it looks like I might need to read the Iron Fey series first. Plus, I'm just dying to read some Male POV books!

The land of Faery sounds so SCARY. I can't wait! Terrific review, Ashlyn! (:

  2. Great review. I really enjoyed The Lost Prince as well. But you are right, i spent a lot of the book waiting for Ash and Puck to show up again. They did overshadow Ethan a bit.
