My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Oh, guys, I liked this one!  I really liked it.  There was so many things that made it so easy and engaging while reading.  The way it was written, the quick and creative chapters and illustrations.  There were a lot of technical things done very well and the subject matter was really interesting.  But there was still something . . . missing.  I had a great time reading but everything felt very neat.

I'm a sucker for awesome characters and this book has some great ones.  I adored the main character, Maddy.  Not only was she smart and funny and a total book nerd but she was also half African American and half Asian.  Diversity is so important in books - particularly YA books so I was really happy to learn that this book had it.  Maddy also was diagnosed with SCID, a disease which basically means you're allergic to everything.  Seeing her live sheltered from everything, locked away from the outside world was shocking and so sad.  I do wish they had focused a little more on the disease.  While it was a big part of Maddy's life we didn't really get a whole lot of actual information on it.  Olly, our there main character, was so adorable!  I loved how sweet he was and how supportive and caring of Maddy he was.  Though, I do think he was a little gullible (especially toward the end).  Still, he was a great guy and really patient with Maddy.

The plot of this novel was actually really great.  When I first picked it up, I thought it might be a little slow because of . . . well, you know, how Maddy can't go outside or really have others come inside.  But everything was so interesting and I loved the chapters that were made up of the illustrations.  The way everything was organized and expressed was just so creative and wonderful.  And the twist!!  Oh, the twists in this novel were crazy!  I was so impressed with how well everything was set up and unfolded.

While this wasn't my absolute favorite book, I still enjoyed it a lot!  The characters were great, the writing style was so creative, and it was full of diversity.  There were some things missing but I feel like this is an important book - definitely one everyone should give a chance!
