While most seventeen-year-old American girls would refuse to let their parents marry them off to a stranger, Robyn Mason dreams of the mysterious McKale in Ireland, wondering how he’ll look and imagining his cute Irish accent. Prearranged bindings are common for magical families like her own, however when she travels to the whimsical Emerald Isle she discovers there’s more to her betrothal and McKale’s clan than she was led to believe.

What starts as an obligatory pairing between Robyn and McKale morphs over time into something they both need. But one giant obstacle stands in the way of their budding romance: a seductive and deadly Fae princess accustomed to getting what she wants—and what she wants is McKale as her plaything. Love, desire, and jealousies collide as Robyn’s family and McKale’s clan must work together to outsmart the powerful Faeries and preserve the only hope left for their people.

My Review:  I've always been a huge fan of Wendy Higgins.  Her first novel, Sweet Evil, was actually the novel that inspired me to start Wonderland's Reader!  I just needed somewhere to get out all my feels!  So when I heard about this new novel - a standalone - that she was releasing, I was so excited, not to mention a little nervous.  I knew I loved The Sweet Trilogy, but I knew there was a chance this one might not live up to my expectations.  Luckily, I had nothing to worry about.  See Me is a genuinely good novel with three dimensional characters, sweet family relationships, and a slow burning romance that had me fangirling throughout the entire novel!

One thing I always enjoy when it comes to Wendy's novels is the relationships between the main characters and their family.  While I adored seeing Robyn and McKale together, I also really loved seeing Robyn's relationship with her mom and dad and sister.  Not enough books in the YA genre do a good job of realistically showing the dynamic between parents and children and I feel like Wendy Higgins does a wonderful job.  The unconditional love and support for the main character from his or her parents should be something shown more in novels rather than unhealthy dependency on attractive, dangerous guys.

Robyn's relationship with McKale was also something I enjoyed reading about.  The way it started was quite unconventional but it added a layer that I hadn't read much of and it wove in some tension that made it all the more interesting.  I was anticipating ever step they took in their relationship and seeing the way it evolved and grew was so sweet and refreshing.  McKale wasn't the usual bad-boy mysterious male lead that you can normally find in YA.  He was unsure of himself and so, so sweet.  But he also had his moments of confidence.  Basically, he was totally swoon-worthy.

The plot, while not filled with tons of action, kept me interested.  It was more involved with the drama and problems surrounding McKale and Robyn's relationship as well as the fear of the faeries.  Knowing that the fae could come at any time and ruin everything was a seriously nerve-wracking aspect!

See Me is a novel you won't regret reading.  Unlike the usual YA novels, it brings a refreshing change to the genre that was very much needed.  I am so excited to see what Wendy Higgin's will come up with next!

    1. I know, I found out about just a couple days before it released! I love how she doesn't rush relationships! It gives us a better chance to get to know the characters. And I wish the relationships between parents and the MC were shown more often! It gives the novels an extra layer that is really appreciated!

  3. Oh it's so awesome when a favourite author keeps living up to expectations, right?! It's always SUCH a relief. x) I have half an eyeball on this. I haven't read many faerie books, so I totally need to try some more!
