Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they have more power than you dream.

Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her, Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys—all the ones she doesn't want. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water—just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They’re powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life’s at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who’s hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming . . .
My Review:  Engaging plot?  Check.  Interesting premise?  Check.  Action?  Check. Hot guy?  Check x4.  This book was a fun read that went beyond my expectations!  I went into it thinking that it would be okay and I would enjoy the four hot Merrick brothers but I just couldn't put this book down!  I flew through this story and fell completely in love with it!

Let's start with the brothers.  Well holy cow.  I think I just added four new boys to my ever growing book boyfriend list.  These guys were so amazing!  Each of them had their own personality and stood out from each other without going unbelievably overboard on being unique.  They were completely believable.  And the relationships between them were realistic.  They didn't always get along but when push came to shove, they were there standing side by side!

Chris was out main guy in this book - the baby of the brothers.  He was a complex character and I thought he was so funny and charming (though I don't think Becca would agree).  He had an awesome back story - one that I really enjoyed learning more about.  The history of him and his brothers being elementals added so much tension and danger to this story.  I sympathized with him and his brothers so much!

Becca was a pretty great character, too!  I loved the fact that she was willing to do anything for her friends.  If she saw something going on that she knew shouldn't be, she wasn't afraid to speak up and stop it.  I admired her bravery and compassion and I loved her caring nature.  She was an awesome mixture of soft and tough.  While some of the things we find out about her and her family aren't a total surprise, I still enjoyed seeing them unfold.

My only problem with this book was the romance.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good romance as much as the next person.  But this one just didn't hook me.  I felt like I didn't see enough of Becca and Chris (civilly) together to really care whether or not the got together.  Plus, I was unsure if they were even meant to be love interests, anyways.  Becca seemed to be with another guy the majority of the book and often said how hot Chris's brothers are.  I wish that I had seen more of the build up between them.  I also felt like the book ended rather abruptly.  I want to know more and I'm hoping the next book (though not in Chris and Becca's point of views) updates us on what those two are doing nowadays.

I really adored this book.  The characters were great, the premise was so cool, and the plot was engaging and interesting.  The romance lacked a little but that was easy to look past with all the other awesome elements in this book!  I definitely cannot wait to dive into the next installment, Spark!

  1. I don't know if I can manage this book. I mean, four HOT boys? I'll be overjoyed with emotions! lol. Sorry to hear that the romance was a bit underdeveloped. But I'm guessing there will be more to it on the next books. Great review Ashtyn :)
