In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.
My Review:  Cassandra Clare has such a talent for drawing you in from the moment you open one of her books and not letting you go until you turn that last page.  Clockwork Prince was another one of her books that I just could not - nor did I want to - put down.  There was so much awesome packed into these 400 or so pages that I can barely hold in my amazement and excitement, even now.

I was really excited to dive back into this world, especially after how we left off our characters.  I was so worried about what was happening with Will and what secrets he was keeping tucked in his past.  There was a lot of mystery surrounding him that I wanted to unfold and and discover and I was glad that we had the chance in this book.  We are given a lot of answers to questions that everyone had been asking since the first installment in this series.  It was nice to get a look at what sort of background he came from but also very painful.  You see and understand a lot about him in this story that you didn't in the one before and I thought that did a magnificent job at developing his character further.  We learn a little more about Tessa's past as well, though not enough to fully quench my curiosity.  I'm eager to learn exactly what happened to make her how she is.

One of my favorite parts of this series is the dynamic between all of the characters and how they work and compliment each other.  Each and every one of the has their own outgoing and strong personality and yet they all come together to form a solid group of people that really could not possibly be any better suited for each other.  I love seeing the relationship Charlotte and Henry have with all of the younger Shadow Hunters and I love seeing the interaction between them and other Shadow Hunters who are not a part of the Institute.  I especially enjoy the relationship between Will and Jem.  They have such a strong and profound bond.  It really is amazing how well Cassie depicts their relationship to us.  I was glad that Tessa, despite being the the top of a love triangle between them, saw and appreciated their bond and did everything she could not to get in the way of that.  She loves them both enough not to be selfish and I really admire that about her.

The plot is as heart racing as ever.  I was on the edge of my seat flipping through the pages to find out what would happen next.  So much is uncovered about Mortmain and what exactly he's up to.  I'm really excited to see how the Shadow Hunters will fight against him.

I don't know what you're doing if you haven't picked up this book yet.  The characters capture your heart, the world is as terrifying as it is beautiful, and the plot doesn't disappoint in the slightest.  Pick up this book and get to reading!
