Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.
But she can’t do either alone.
With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?
Who can Evie trust?
As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side…

My Review:  I started this book with very high expectations.  I had heard wonderful things about the author and the book's blurb had me immediately hooked.  That being said, I was very happy with this read!

I am in love with the concept of this story.  Teenagers who represent different Tarot cards?  It's so different and unique!  I have never read anything like it and that alone added a thrill when I started this book. It wasn't something that you find often in YA, like vampires, fallen angels, or faeries.  Throughout the time when I was reading it, I was amazed with how normal all the paranormal elements seemed to be.  I never thought oh, that's not believable, it always fit perfectly in the story.

The plot was also great!  Though I was a little confused at first because of the switching POVs, I quickly caught on and was able to just enjoy the main story line.  Everything was very well thought out.  Nothing slipped through Kresley Cole's fingers; she kept everything controlled and in line.  I really appreciated that when reading.  All the details in the story matched up with each other perfectly.  It felt very well organized and I enjoyed following Evie and Jack's adventure.

Speaking of Evie and Jack . . . they were two completely different characters and I love both of them.  With their personalities in such contrast to each other, I never knew whether they were going to be fighting or getting along.  Both options were equally entertaining and fun to read.  The banter, while frustrating at times, gave a lot of insight on how they saw each other and how they saw themselves.  For a lot of the book, I was upset because they had such warped views of each other.  I hated that they stereotyped each other when they first met.  I also was extremely frustrated with both of them for different reason.  I was mad at Evie for keeping secrets from Jack when he was one of the only people she actually could confide in and I was made at Jack for shutting Evie out at times.  I felt like they were so good together and the romantic tension between the two was heart racing.  I just wanted them to get together and stay that way.  I am excited to see where their relationship goes in the second book and how they both grow and mature.

With an amazing and unique idea, a thrilling and fast paced plot, and some really great characters, Poison Princess is a book that will hook you the moment you begin reading and take you on an exciting and heart-pounding journey of adventure, discovery, and romance.  If you haven't bought it already, I highly recommend you do!
